The center card is the focus. It is what we wish to learn
about:
The Hooded Man
The Hooded Man often represents mystery. We do not know
what is behind his hood or what his intentions are. You do not know much
about your mother do you? The Hooded Man is of the suit of swords, which
is of the Earth. The Earth represents home and hearth, so I think this is
appropriate to the mystery of your mother.
The next card represents the past:
The Beast
The Beast is of the High Deck. It represents the beasts of the night, and yet also the beast within. For human beings can be more beastlike than any creature of the night.
The future holds...
The Soldier
Perhaps the soldier will take arms against the beast. Whether for good or for ill, I cannot say.
The focus will both have help along the way and hindrances. The next card is the help your mother had, perhaps when she fought this great beast:
The Myrmidon
The most loyal of soldiers, who follows orders unquestioningly. But it also represents the unexpected changes such a soldier faces in battle. Again an Earth card. It is unusual to see so many Earth cards at once. Perhaps there is some connection there between your mother and a land? Perhaps this Shadowlands that she was from.

The Avenger
Once again another Earth card, this is so strange. The Avenger seeks to right what they see as wrong, whether or not it truly is. Sometimes an avenger can be so focused on what they think is wrong, what goes against their beliefs, that they will strike down anyone who stands in their way. Anyone who they even think has evil in their hearts, regardless of whether they truly do.
